Career Transition

Article Pic

Have you ever been ‘let go’ from your job? Has your work position ever been ‘made vacant’ or ‘made redundant’? Are you between contracts? Or have you just been just laid off? However else you describe it, being out of work is something that is happening with extraordinary frequency in our society. People are now described as a resource that can be turned on or off regardless of the personal impact on those concerned.

Going through this can be pretty scary. All of a sudden some of those things that got you up in the morning are no longer there. The corporate badge you used to wear is removed. In many respects part of your identity is changed. Then there is the money issue. You might be asking: How can I provide for my family? How will it impact my children? Will I need to pull them out of school? What about that holiday we planned? Where is God in all of this? All these are difficult questions to grapple with. As Christians we know that God does have a plan for us, but how can we find it during these times of transition?

Here at St Hilary's & St Silas Church we have a Transition Group that meets every Friday to help work through some of these issues. We are mainly men and we get together to have coffee, develop Christian friendships, explore opportunities together, hold each other accountable and try to remain focused on God as we go through these tumultuous times.

If you would like to come along and share that journey with us, please contact the office on 9816 7100 or email stephenh@shac.com.au.
